Urbia, suburbia, exurbia,
wherever you live,
whatever the climate,
wife-dressing should echo the Scouts' motto, "Be Prepared!"
wherever you live,
whatever the climate,
wife-dressing should echo the Scouts' motto, "Be Prepared!"
Think beyond the dressing-room mirror. Will you be away all day? All evening? In this context, wife-dressing is like a military exercise. You must develop your survival instincts and be fully prepared to meet both the expected-and the unexpected. What you're aiming for is a combination of self-containment and mobility. You want adaptability in what you're wearing and freedom of movement. You can have all these advantages at your fingertips by carrying a tote-bag--which I sincerely believe us the best thing that's happened to women since the vote.
- Anne Fogarty, Wife-Dressing, c.1959, p.28
After reading this, I wondered if I was truly prepared for whatever came my way. I decided to grab the purse I was currently using and unceremoniously dump all of its contents onto the coffee table. (My camera is also usually in my bag.)
I think I need a few more pouches like those Kismet featured yesterday on The Unreal Bride to contain similar contents. I've got a lot of stuff. If you want to get a better look at what I have in my purse, I've organized it neatly on Flickr.
Are you prepared for the expected and unexpected today?
Ciao Bella!
